Whole Wheat Cake Donuts


Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease a donut pan with non-stick spray. Set aside. In a medium bowl combine wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Set aside. In a large bowl or stand mixer combine egg, sugar, milk, butter and vanilla. Slowly add in the flour mixture and mix until combined. Cut donuts out of dough using a donut cutter or a large, round cookie cutter, using a bottle cap to cut out donut holes. Heat about 2 inches of coconut oil to 325F in a frying pan. Carefully place donuts into frying pan for a few seconds, and then flip when golden on one side. Remove from oil and place on cooling rack.

Transfer the mixture to a donut pan and bake. Then, dip baked donuts into the melted butter and cinnamon sugar mixture.

Slowly start to heat melt/heat the fat over medium heat; you want it to reach somewhere between 365°F and 375°F before you begin to cook.
